The Nashville group formed in 1986 as a three-piece teaming Wagner, guitarist Watkins, and bassist Trovillion, but their fluid line-up has gone on to incorporate over a dozen members at certain points. Wagner is undoubtedly the centre of this alternative country band, which is also unclassifiable, taking in soul, jazz, post-rock, lounge and avant-garde. What makes it unmistakeable is Wagner’s distinctive “witty and deeply insightful” lyrical style (Songwriter).
